Noteworthy Performances at the LBI Michigan Jamboree 2018

Aubrey Zmuda  6’1” Center 2020 Midwest Power Armstead
Aubrey, who is new to AAU basketball, showed that she belongs at this level.  Her Midwest Power team matched up with top-notch competition and she was a force in the middle.  She displayed good knowledge of the game and her role.  Aubrey scored effectively underneath the basket and showed a good touch from mid-range.  Has the ability to catch at the elbow and get to the basket.  Definitely, one to watch in July and beyond.

Jackie Monoso 5’8” Forward 2021 Greg Grant Elite
Jackie had a very efficient day for her Greg Grant squad.  She did all the little things that mattered to help her team compete.  Jackie also showed glimpses of her excellent shooting form.   In a game against CCE, Jackie buried a three-pointer from about 30 feet out.  The form was smooth as Jackie made it look easy.   At other times she was spotted rebounding against larger opponents, ball handling against pressure and talking and playing hard on defense.  She did all of this under control and I didn’t see her commit one turnover during the day.

Piper Bosart 6’2” Center 2021 Michigan Crossover Cooper
Piper showed me something in this tournament.  I have seen her play solid before, but today she went into her “bag” over and over again.  I was impressed with the development in her game.  She knocked down the one dribble pull up consistently, with a hand in her face.  Piper was also able to create space with the pump fake and was excellent at finishing plays.  Her team was dominant in this Jamboree and Piper was a big reason why.

Catriana Carroll 6’ PF 2020 Michigan Premiere White
Catriana was a force inside all day at the Jamboree.  She did the best Dennis Rodman impersonation that I have seen in a long time.  On one possession against the Mystics, she corralled 6 offensive rebounds in a row.  She eventually completed the play with a put-back layup.  Catriana looked like she was having fun out there.  She consistently beat the opposing big to the rim for easy layups.  She dominated the glass on both ends of the floor in the two games I saw her play.  From the high post, she also made great reads that led to several assists for layups and spot up threes.

Jada Patton 5’9” PF 2020 Michigan Premiere White
At first glance, Jada looks like an exceptional athlete.  She not only looks the part; she is very strong, fast and athletic.  On a Premiere squad loaded with weapons, Jada was part of a 1-2 punch that included Morgan Hanchett that combined for 25 points in a win against the Michigan Mystics.  Jada was rewarded for running the floor ahead of everyone on a few occasions by receiving excellent passes for easy layups in transition.  What also stood out about Jada was her ability to leap over and through defenders to finish in traffic.  It was definitely a superb performance by Jada and her teammates.

Morgan Hanchett 5’8” SG 2020 Michigan Premiere White
In the last game of the day at
Hype Athletics Morgan started slowly as she ran the offense from the SG spot.  She dialed up the three-pointer in the second half as she made three of them overall to finish with a team-high 13 points in Premiere’s win over the Mystics.  Her versatility was on display during the entire game as she switched roles as needed.  She was disruptive on defense, rebounded from her guard spot, took care of the ball and made open shots.

Abi Tarrant 5’7” SG 2021 Michigan Cagers
This rising star was the glue that held her team together in a hard-fought defeat against the West Michigan Drive.  Her composure and ball handling acumen allowed this lefty to make great decisions against the Drive’s pressure defense as she was able to constantly take her defender off the dribble.  She scored the ball when necessary and often made the proper pass.
