Summer Sizzler Noteworthy Performances Day Two 

2022 5'11" PF Brooklyn Thrash Midwest Power Womack
Brooklyn and her Power teammates found themselves in a dog fight with Northern Pride Sports Academy this morning.  This game was very physical and fast-paced.  Baskets were hard to come by, but Thrash found a way to get it done.  She converted on 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch and got a big steal that was vital to Power closing out the 39-33 win.  

2022 6' C Ella Miller Elite Nation Basketball (ENB)
In a throwback kind of way, Ella showed that “true” post play is not out-of-style.  Against West Michigan Crush Miller literally put her back to the basket to carry her team to victory.  She repeatedly established low post position for easy layups in this one.  The Crush had no answer for her inside.  But she did step outside in the second half and knocked down a three on her way to a team-high 17 points.

2020 5'8" SG Morgan Hanchett Michigan Premiere White
The always steady Hanchett put her skills on display today when her team needed them most.  Premiere White went down 10-0 to Hype Athletics early in their contest.  Morgan didn’t get rattled and led an attack that chipped away at the deficit.  They eventually took the lead in the second half thanks in large part to Hanchett knocking down open looks from three (she made 4 three-pointers for the game).   Premiere White put the game away late as Hanchett set up teammates for easy scoring opportunities.  She led the way with 14 points and 6 assists in the 42-34 victory.

2021  6'0  SG  Morasha Wiggins  Michigan Crossover
Wiggins is a smooth explosive athlete that scored on multiple out of bounds underneath sets by just calmly jumping over anyone and everyone for an easy layup. Morasha also displayed a very tight handle and the ability to make plays off the dribble.

2022 5'7” PG Olivia Dirkse Michigan Cagers 
Olivia started the game I watched with a quick 6 points and didn't let up until her opponent went to an all-out face guard to keep her from touching the ball. Dirkse displayed a nice shot, deceptively quick first step and the ability to finish in traffic. She turned in to a playmaker when they started face-guarding her and managed to consistently set up her teammates for easy baskets.

2019 5'7” PG Molly Davis Michigan Mystics
Molly was nice with it all game in a win over the Michigan Crossover, she ran the show got buckets and proved to be a tough gritty defender against the cat-quick guards of the Crossover squad. Molly never got rattled from the pressure and controlled the tempo until the final horn. 

2020 5'10” SG Shaulana Wagner Michigan Crossover
One of the smartest toughest girls I have seen play at these events, Wagner is always in the right spot plays the game the right way and plays with an unmatched passion and intensity that simply makes her one of the best players on the floor. Shaulana has the whole package and is only getting better, on one possession she through a backdoor bounce pass from the elbow that was picture perfect and on the next she hit a girl in stride for an easy layup in transition, (oh and all while smiling and having fun)!!!

2019 5'6” PG Alyza Winston Michigan Crossover
Winston after a slow start against the Mystics decided enough was enough and went crazy. There is quick there is fast and then there is Winston, with her explosive speed and ability to finish she rattled off 12 quick points and then added the 3 ball to make her an even harder cover. Winston scored in many different ways but all of them were a few steps faster than anyone on the floor. Winston is one of the top guards in the Midwest and her athleticism and flat out GAME will keep her in the conversation as one of the best

2021 6’3” C Megan Crow Level Up Express 
The first thing that sticks out about Megan is her imposing size and court presence.  She uses her length well to alter shots and make things difficult for those attacking the basket.  As she develops, she’s going to add strength and foot speed, but she has some things that I think comes natural to her like the touch on her shots.  She displayed a soft touch on put-backs, mid-range jumpers, and free throw attempts.  Megan has some real potential and I’m looking forward to seeing her make gains over the next year already.

2019 6’ PF Emily Kellogg West Michigan Crush
Emily seemed to get better and better as the days went on.  What grabs your attention about her game is how ferocious she is.  Emily is relentless on the boards and when attacking the basket. She’s so physical, I’d bet the farm that she gave out multiple bruises to few poor souls.  She finishes well with both hands around the rim off the dribble or on outback after crashing the offensive glass.  It was refreshing seeing a kid be that active.  That activity allowed her to make an impact on all facets of the game and a few coaches as well.

2021 5’10” SG Ella Stemmer Michigan Premier
Ella Stemmer stymied the defense in win over the West Michigan Drive late Tuesday afternoon.  She netted 16 points that included 4 triples versus a very talented team that includes multiple Division 1 players.  Stemmer was very active on both ends of the court as her team would need every ounce of energy she was able to give. She ran the floor well and stayed shot ready to catch and shoot her team to a victory.  Stemmer made big-time shots as big-time players should.  

2019 6’2” PF Sarah Wight Michigan Mystics
The scouting service culture is one that prides itself on finding the next big thing, and rightfully so. I mean it’s exciting to see some 8th grader who’s 6’2”, runs the floor like a cheetah in open pasture, leaps like an Olympic high jumper, and shoots the ball with the precision of a surgeon.  But I just found out that this is Sarah Wight’s first full year of travel ball and after seeing how far she has come, that is exciting!  She has great length she uses to defend the basket and defend players out on the perimeter. She’s tough and physical and doesn’t back down from anyone.  Her activity level is off the charts which a lot of times you don’t see in players with much experience because they just don’t know what to be active about.  She has a decent mid-range shot and passes the ball well.  If she desires to, she’s going to play somewhere and someone is going to have fun developing the rest of her game.  Sarah is the quintessential diamond in the rough for a program that really wants to develop basketball players.

2021 6’1” SF Shannon Wheeler Michigan Crossover
Shannon Wheeler has worked her way into being a D1 prospect.  She’s very quiet and unassuming but she has a competitive spirit about her.  Over the past two days at LBI Summer Sizzler, Shannon has slashed to the basket and finished with her left or right countless times. She used her length well on the boards and in passing lanes.  She was very effective in the open court using euro steps and other moves that require agility to finish.  Shannon has really come along over the past few months and college coaches should be taking notes.

2020 5’10” PG McKenzie Lewis Michigan Triple Threat
I love McKenzie Lewis’ game and I can’t hide it.  She has key attributes you need from a point guard that make her fun to watch and extremely valuable to her team.  She has a great handle and amazing composure under duress.  Her head is always on a swivel with eyes that command the defenses attention.  She has a fearless and relentless style of play that always keeps her opponents on their toes.  She faced off with some of the best PG’s Michigan has to offer at the LBI Summer Sizzler, and she more than held her own on both ends of the court.  Lewis has a very mature game and I’m sure the folks over at Williamston HS are enjoying having a winner at the point.
